Family policies
Whether you may watch, what to wear, who collects and how photos are handled.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
Watching class and the performance
Parents of younger dancers wait in the waiting area, which has a window onto the studio. The last Saturday class of each month is a watch class, when families sit along the studio wall and see the work. On other days the door stays closed so dancers can hear their teacher. Seating at the annual performance and the studio recital is open. Photos and video of your own dancer from your seat are welcome, without flash, and the program says where to stand.
What to wear and bring
A fitted top and leggings or cotton pants, so the teacher can see the knees and feet. Bare feet or socks at first, and hair tied back and off the neck. Jewelry stays at home apart from stud earrings. Ankle bells stay in the bag until the teacher asks for them, and we take costume measurements in person, in the summer.
When to keep your child home
Please keep your dancer home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, and until they have been well for a full day. Text or call the studio, and we will tell you how a missed class can be made up.
Drop-off and pickup
A grown-up brings and collects every dancer under 10, and the teacher hands each child to the person who came with them. For older dancers, the door opens ten minutes before class, and we ask you to tell us who is collecting. We ask for ID from anyone we have not met.
Absences and late arrival
Text or call the studio when your dancer will miss a class. A missed class can be made up in another class of the same grade, or the grade just below it, within the same session. A dancer who arrives after the warm-up joins quietly.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for two weeks at the winter break, on school holidays and for one week in spring that follows the area schools. When the area schools close for snow, we close, and we text every family that morning. A week lost to weather is made up with a class later in the session.
Screens and phones
Phones stay in bags during class. We do not film class, apart from watch days, when you are welcome to film your own dancer from the wall. Please keep other children out of your shots.
